Celtic football club has imposed a three-match home ban on the Green Brigade, a well-known fan group, following an incident of "violent and threatening behaviour" during a game against Falkirk. The club released footage showing roughly 100 fans engaging in hostile actions, including verbally abusing and assaulting a steward and two police officers on October 29. The altercation reportedly started after a routine ticket check at Celtic Park's rail seating area.
This move comes after the Green Brigade had already been given a suspended sanction earlier in the summer due to "repeated serious safety and security-related breaches." The club's statement emphasized that this latest trouble has resulted in activating the suspended sanction, barring the Green Brigade from attending three home games. Celtic communicated directly with the group and season ticket holders about the matter, underscoring the need to maintain safety and order at matches.
The club strongly condemned the occurrence, stressing that Celtic Park must remain a safe environment for all attendees. Footage from the day reveals fans rushing through walkways and concourses, while Police Scotland seeks witnesses to help investigate the incident.
Assistant Chief Constable Mark Sutherland remarked on the severity of the disorder, asserting that such violent conduct will not be tolerated and expressing commitment to identifying and holding those involved accountable. The affected officers and steward, left shaken by the events, are receiving support, while authorities urge anyone with pertinent information to contact them.
In October 2023, a portion of the Green Brigade had their season tickets revoked indefinitely after a significant increase in unacceptable behavior. The ban was later lifted in December following the group’s agreement to adhere to a new safety code of conduct. This recent incident, however, reignites concerns over fan behavior at games, with Celtic and law enforcement taking a firm stance to prevent recurrence.
